Default NAV TSB EL012-06 Disables Override

OK folks. It's official. I had TSB EL012-06 installed this afternoon.

1) Since it was a warrantee repair they had to replace the DVD themselves (as opposed to me doing it). Got a free carwash out of the deal. According to the service rep the funny money cost is $900.
2) Per the TSB, they retained the old DVD (which I have a copy of of course). What they did with the old DVD is uncertain. They are suppose to destroy it.
3) The new DVD has a new part number suffix but is still Level 5.1.

And drumroll please ...

4) The Volume, Icon, Blank blah blah blah override does not work. Nope the secret upper and lower left screen position are not touch sensitive.

So if the NAV override is important either avoid EL12-06 or build yourself a hybrid (no pun) DVD with the old microcode.

If the version is 5.1 then they didn't upgrade anything, except downgrading usability. I kind of expected this sort of BS. The 900 price must be in yen, whole NAV option costs $1200. Thanks for letting us know, at least I will not waste mine and dealer's time, first getting the update and then reloading back old software. Isn't internet great???

The TSB addresses a correction to poor position reporting in certain locations. I actually encountered the problem several times in Iowa I will find out this weekend if the update did in fact fix that issue.
I agree though, the map database is still 5.1 the microcode/firmware is different and as an added free bonus the ability to defeat the safety feature has been removed. Probably at the order of their legal department who also surfs the internet I am sure.

I listed out the directories on both the old and new NAV DVD.
There are two additional files on the new NAV DVD and all the rest as far as I can see are identical names and sizes so these are the only two changes:
07/02/2006 04:50 AM 464 00.VNS
07/02/2006 04:50 AM 522,240 LDM.BIN
I've attached directory listings for your closer examination.

Ok so the ideal here would be to figure out which file is the correction and which is the override. That way someone could incorperate the positional fix into the mix disc of the 05.1 and the 06.1 discs.
