Default My new TCH

I am the proud owner of a Blue ribbon metallic TCH. I have it for more than one week now. I am on my second tank of gas. Overall it has been a great experience. My first tank gave me 38.5mpg. I drive about 44miles everyday-80% highway. As I experiment with different driving techniques(thanks to everyone in these forums) I am able to get better mileage from the second tank-about 41mpg. Overall I am extremely happy that I chose to get one. I dont have to visit the gas station as often as I used to before(I am sure I will miss it!!!!!)

Congratulations! I saw a Blue Ribbon a couple of days ago and it's a knock-out! And that's fantastic MPG for the first tank!

You can always stop in every morning to buy your coffee. It's cheaper there than Starbucks so you save enough to buy gas for your commute for the TCH

Nice! Blue Ribbons Unite!!!
Great mileage on your first tank, I can only hope I do nearly so well (used to drive a Grand Am v6).

We too have the metallic blue ribbon. Have had it for just over a week. First tank was 41.3. Since then it's more like 38. Absolutely love the car. We have the moonroof with the bisque interior - we were having a difficult time finding one that would make the tax break deadline, so we jumped at this one when it became available. Originally we wanted the leather package in a silver car. My wife wanted silver (even though it is a very common color) but when she saw the blue (wearing polarized sun glasses makes it look even better) we were floored. We aren't sorry in the least for our decision. The fabric is comfortable and the drive, well you guys know about how smooth the ride is!

Thanx for all the replies. As I mentioned in the first post I am on my second tank of gas. I dont know whether to believe it or not but my TCH tells me that I am at present averaging 45.6mpg . I guess I will not know for sure until I run the tank empty and use the stone age method of calculating the gas mileage. Any comments??? Will keep u all posted on the progress.

I have been putting around 50m on it everyday and so far it has been a great ride. The only gripe I have about it is the sqeeking noise that seems to be coming from around the area of the shift lever(as mentioned in one of the posts). Hope toyota comes up with a fix soon.

Ok, JMV, my book says if you wanna be successful, do what other succesful people do. I'm on the tail end of my second tank of gas and it's all I can do to avg. 33-34 MPG each day, according to my NAV system. My best is 36.5 and I got a 35.4 one other time. Some people always seem to get it before the others. What kind of driving tips can you offer to do so well?

WVGasGuy, I'm not looking to be reminded that we always get this question once or twice a day from people who fail to do a search. I want JMV's answer and opinions.

Congrats, JMV on your new TCH and on the awsome results your getting?

Also, JMV, are you using the AC much? What part of the country are you located?

My speculation is that there are differences between localities that include type of driving (freeway vs. stop & go), climate (humidity factor, elevation, temp. calls for AC, etc.), routine avg. distance per commute, etc.

I also speculate that although each TCH is built exactly the same way to the same specs. that each one probably varies to some degree in it's ability to attain the best MPG's.

MagcamyH Hi. I am not doing anything special. I drive 22 miles one way-it is predominantly highway(>80%). I just use the "pump & glide technique"(think thats what it is called)-I picked up the tips from these forums. It does not work all the time as the commute is not on flat roads all the time. The AC is on auto in ECO mode. I live in southwestern PA. When I am off the highway the road that I use has lot of curves and the speed limit is 35. It allows me to run on EV mode without angering the people behind me. Hopefully this answers all the questions. In a nutshell I am not doing anything different than all u out there. Probably I got a little lucky so far..Lets hope my luck continues!!!!!

I want to reserve any judgement though until I run the tank down and calculate using the old method to make sure that the computer is not off.
