You must mean the toy spare tire.

There is room in that space for a real spare tire, but then you have to find another place to stow the jack.

No, I mean under the deck.... Open the trunk, get low and look up... it's right in the center. a little black rectangle thing with two wires running out of it.

Just a guess...I am not near the car to have a look....could it be the cooling fan for the Hybrid batteries?...or wiring for the third brake light?

No, have a look... It's about 2 inches long, about 1/2 inch wide and tall. it's dead center, next to the light.

Okay, I found it in the techinfo...

"ELECTRICAL KEY OSCILLATOR" Something to do with the smart key system. Appears to be 6 of them in the car. They do not appear to be receivers. I'm going to have to read up on this. (I HATE not knowing how things work)

Okay, it appears that you MAY be able to unplug this thing in order to allow your wife to leave her purse in the trunk with your spare key. I'm going to have to test this.

AH! GREAT detective work! That makes sense! Probably one in each front door..and one inside the cabin..let's see, with the one in the trunk, that now totals 4...hmmm wonder where the other 2 are? Maybe two in each front door?

one in each door, one in the front cabin, one in the read cabin, one in the trunk and one in the rear bumper. They make up the zones that the key is detectable in. This is NOT the wireless system (not the transmitters) but the RFID system -- from what I can tell.

Some seriously complicated stuff..
