It's an abuse of the red exclamation point!
So here I am, at 10100 miles, my oil change scheduled for Tuesday, and I'm driving around with a big, fat, ugly, extremely red exclamation indicator on the dash, with an accompanying 'Service Required' message on the display. Clinched fists, grinding jaw, sweaty brow, racing heart...I know I can cancel the darn message, but really, isn't it a bit overkill to shine the 'danger' indicator for an oil change?
It's better than the yellow plastic piece that would pop up and cover the numbers in the odometer in my '81 Chevette, requiring a trip to the dealer to reset.
I did, in fact, decide to reset it since I was concerned it may be masking a more important message, like I'm out of washer fluid.
Don't get me wrong: changing oil is really important, but I don't think the difference between 4900 mile oil and 5100 mile oil is that big.
