A must see NASCAR crash video. The driver walked away unscathed. I wonder if the TCH would hold up as well. I hope no one ever has to find out the hard way!
As to your second point - no way. While I'm sure the TCH is well-engineered, the crash energy it (or any street car) is engineered to deal with is nowhere near the energy that race car dissipated. Heck, climbing in over the roll cage cross-bars would get old in a hurry. And where would you keep the hybrid battery, with all the bracing tubes in the way? No room for luggage, either.

If you think how the NASCAR CoT is built has anything to do with how the stock TCH (or any Gen6 Camry) is built in terms of safety, you are kidding yourself. There is no correlation whatsoever. It is a completely different car from the frame all the way up, there is probably not a single stock part or design element from a production Camry on that CoT. The only requirement is that the outside skin has some resemblence to the production car.
My post, like almost all of my others, was a bit tongue in cheek and need be read with a wee bit of salt.
The post was more a marvel at the safety engineered into one of those cars as that was one of the most horrific crashes I'd ever seen where the driver was able to walk away.
