I got the word
I got the word today that my TCH should be at the dealer tomorrow. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow night. I can't wait...
It was built in Japan and it took a little less than 6 weeks to get to the dealer.
Looks like my wife and I need to take a short trip this weekend

Thanks. WOW that has been a long time. That sounds like a dealer issue. I ordered mine mid January and it'll be here tomorrow. I wonder what is taking so long? Have you asked the dealer?
I absolutely hated having to wait for my hybrid to come in - and I only had to wait a week! But, I can tell you- it's an awesome feeling when you get the call from the dealership that you're car has arrived.
Like you, I'll be getting a new TCH really soon!
It is finally happening after...
6 months of research, including 2 weeks of obsessive research,
1 grumpy, brusque, impatient and downright rude salesman who didn't even realize his attitude during our test drive of a TCH was turning us both off. It was ostensibly my husband who was looking for a vehicle, so I was treated offhandedly, as if unimportant. Sexism is no better approach with me than is incivility! His attitude ensured that we would most definitely NOT be purchasing a car from him or his dealership (too bad because they are the closest geographically). I don't expect anyone to grovel, or to be obsequious.
However, I try to treat people the way I want to be treated, so it doesn't seem too much to expect civility if not actual cheerfulness and enthusiasm.
1 week in which I found what seemed reasonable prices at Carmax and Fitzmall, seriously considered avoiding the whole process of dealing with a bunch of places until a good price is found, but decided I ought really to give regional dealers a try too. I wrote a paragraph explaining the specific car and options that I wanted, the price I'd be willing to pay, and e-mailed it to 15 regional dealers.
7 very nice car salesmen who replied with specific, useful information, and who conducted themselves in such a way that I'll be back to this site and others once we actually own a new TCH to let everyone know who I think were good people in the process. Their prices were all within the realm of possible for me too. Yippee for the internet and for reasonable salespeople!
A handful of regional dealers do not currently maintain websites, nor did they list e-mail addresses. If I wanted to deal with them it would have to be more old fashioned - by telephoning or in person, both of which were less desirable to me than e-mailing. They lost whatever business they might have had from me. It is the 21st century after all. If someone in middle age like me can be internet savvy enough to know how to use websites and e-mail, then certainly business owners seeking to get people to spend mind-boggling amounts of money could join us in this century too.
1 dealer who came in at a lower price than the first, best price I could find anywhere, who has been a joy to deal with, and
2 days from now he will sell me my first hybrid vehicle.
In the future, I will have learned from this purchase to state my intention to purchase a new vehicle with 20 miles or less. I failed to do that this time, so my new car will come to me with a few hundred miles on it already. I'm ready to be done with all the intermediate work of buying a car. I just want to have it. I want to start the learning process of being a driver of a hybrid. I can live with the extra miles.
I also learned from the seller that contrary to what someone stated on a forum the warranties which mention miles, like 36,000 or 100,000 refer to the number on the odometer. The miles on the car when you buy it count towards those numbers. If it turns out he's wrong and the other person is right, that'll be wonderful news for me, but if not, I can live with it. I also learned that a car can have 4000 to 5000 miles on it and still be classified as a new car, as long as it is still owned by a dealer not a consumer. How weird is that!
1,000 thanks again to every single helpful person who participates in the life of this site! I've found scads of useful and level headed information here.
It is my favorite car website, and I keep recommending it to others.
It'll be a switch going from an SUV to a sedan, and from AWD to Traction Control, but I believe all the other good points of this car make those two points mere changes rather than things I'm giving up. I can hardly wait!
3 or less - The number of potential car purchases I have left in my life, if I'm lucky, and assuming I manage to keep each one for about 7-8 years (or 150,000 miles, plus or minus). Realizing this has been a bit poignant. It has also made it easier to decide to get bells and whistles that I've never had before and really really like.
So here's to the growing community of TCH and other Hybrid owners...making the planet a little less burdened by our presence, while getting to have fun fun fun in the process! Glad to be joining such a nice group of people!

I am guessing since I had to special order it loaded without a moonroof, that is causing a delay. I am just to tall to fit in one with the moonroof. I hope I get it before March 31. I can't blame the dealer, they have been extremely good to me and were the only ones willing to custom order me one.

Good write up and welcome aboard

My TCH was also custom ordered. My order was placed the following day after I had given a deposit and it took a little less than 6 weeks to get here. Shouldn't be any reason why it would take much longer than 8 weeks.
Good luck. I hope you get it before March 31.
