Default Hybrid Battery Fan issue?

Has anyone had a problem with their Hybrid Battery Fan in the back deck?

We have never heard it as long as we have owned the car. I just assume that it will come on if it needs too. Tonight on the way home with the temps in the mid 50's outside I can here the fan spinning. It is barely audible at speeds below 40 with the ICE off and in E mode. It sounds like it is rubbing on something or has bad brushes that are worn down. If it were a conventional car it would sound kind of like a bad fan belt.

I'm wondering if I should take the time to remove the housing and inspect or just blow it off and call it normal?

Figures too, I just broke 200,000 miles a couple weeks back....

AJ,

Even if you need to replace it, it only takes about an hour and the blower motor costs just under $200 from the dealer. $300 max to repair at the dealer, less if you want to DIY.

Appreciate the feedback. If the labor is that low, I'll go ahead and replace it.

I was watching a video on removing the traction battery a few weeks ago so I am ready for it when it fails. Getting to the fan looked to be a little like a PITA. Not difficult, jut time consuming to remove all the trim and pieces necessary to get to it.

I'll give it a go..... Thanks again.

Almost everything pops off. There are a lot of pieces but they are fairly easy to remove. If you have never done anything like that, it might take you a couple of hours.
