Default Goodbye to our beloved TCH Cheery Cherry

Hello Green Hybrid folks,

Although I have not posted for probably more than a year, including entering tanks, I did want to let any readers know that we loved our Toyota Camry Hybrid.

We bought it and a non hybrid car in the same couple of months. The TCH was for me, and the Honda Accord was for my husband. Well, his commute is three times what mine is, so he ended up with my car and I with his.

I generally got around 37 mpg with the TCH. He is a more competitive person, a more observant driver, and his commute terrain and distance were such that he generally got around 45 mpg with 'my' TCH. He has been driving it for the past year and a half or so. You'll have to take my word for it, admittedly since we've not been entering the tanks (sorry!). We regularly agreed that it was a big mistake not to just get two hybrids instead of one, so we'd both be enjoying them now.

This week, just before our anniversary, he was proceeding at a reasonable pace - 25 mph - through a green light when a woman driving 50 mph ran her red light and was suddenly right in front of him. He ran into her so hard that he pushed her into a third car in the opposite direction that he was going. Wile the people involved in the three car accident appear to all have come out of it with only minor injuries, our favorite car was totaled. So there will be no more Cheery Cherry entries, and I just wanted to be on record with these thoughts.

We went out the same day and looked at more TCHs as well as the new 2010 Prius. We also looked at the new Honda Insight, which has everything going for it except appropriate sizing for tall people. My 6"2" husband could barely squeeze himself into it, and that was that.

When I got the TCH in 2007 I did not find the Prius very comfy in comparison. My old Honda CR-V was wonderful but rather stark and not very comfy. I was looking for a comfy hybrid, due to the large amounts of time I was driving, for a job that I have since lost. Now however the 2010 Prius seems to have been improved to the point that it is rather a toss up which of those two - the TCH or the Prius - will win out.

Or perhaps we'll get some other hybrid. The point is that this is a hybrid and alternative energy loving family, and we've had nothing but good times with our TCH.

The airbags both in the steering wheel and the knee area worked just as they were supposed to, and so I still have a husband with whom to celebrate our anniversary.

Thanks again to Green Hybrid for being so helpful three years ago when we were deciding whether or not to go for our first hybrid.

Here's to an America filled with fuel efficient sources of power and transportation, and a better environment as well.

Adios!

Sorry that the car was totaled, but glad your husband is ok!

At this point I'd seriously consider the 2010 Prius. A lot of the comfort advantages the TCH had are there with the new Prius.

It is a clean, brand new design. The TCH design is now over 3 years old.

The Insight's hybrid drivetrain simply is not in the same class as Toyota's system. Honda's simply trying to be cheap (and it shows!)
