I have noticed a small icon that shows up in various places on the map screen, that looks like a little gift box tied with a ribbon. It is not a POI icon, as it shows up with al POIs turned off, and does nothing if you touch it. It's fairly common, esp. in commercial areas. I wonder if it's intended to represent shopping centers. I couldn't find a reference to it in the manual. Does anyone know what it is?

 

I've seen this icon several times myself and in each instance, there were shopping malls nearby which corresponded to the geographic position/layout of each respective mall, along with icon, on the nav.

 

Poke the icon with your finger and you should be able to display the info about the icon.

 

As I said in my first post, touching it does nothing.

 

did you eventually figure out what the box is?

 

It's a shopping mall (....shopping...gifts...I guess it makes sense).

All the "Denso" based units I have do this. Not sure why it's different than that rest of the POI's. It seems to be part of the "map" rather than something added.

Yeah, I decided that's what it must be. There are a couple of others as well, although I don't recall offhand what they are. I'm just a little surprised at the lack of documentation that comes with this thing, although I guess I should't be.

 

It's like hospital having the red cross and parks having a park bench icon. They are not POI icons.
