Default First trip with TCH

We have been the owner of a 2007 TCH for about a 1 1/2 years and only had around 5000 miles it but we just made our first long distance run of about 2000 miles and since I have been reading this forum for quite a while I thought I would add my thoughts.
We live about 60 miles west of Philadelphia in Lancaster County and decided to go to Lawrence, MI to visit some friends. We filled the car up before leaving and noted the mileage and drove to Battle Creek, MI on just 13.6 gallons. (604 miles)This gave us an average of 44.4 mpg. The trunk was full and the back seat and floor carried items and the occupants were 2. This trip included the turnpike through the mountains in western Pa and we had a strong headwind to contend with. On return we drove a little faster and averaged just slightly under 44.mpg. We also had clear skies and warm temperature and used the ECO mode but with no air conditioning. What is interesting is that the TCH mileage reading was actually each time at fillup a little less than the actual computed mileage. On return I drove 14 hours in a 15 hour time span and found the seating very comfortable. I must admit this is the best car I ever owned. The key to high mileage is learning the pulse and glide method. As a note concerning local driving; I have had as high as 50 mpg driving some of the back roads here in Lancaster County. Perhaps also on interest; the tires were inflated to 35psi instead of 32psi and I am using Mobil 1 synthetic 5-20w.

I totally agree. As I have often stated before, this is the first car I have been truley excited about since my twenties.

On a trip last summer I was impressed with how the car passed Semi trucks on uphill grades. Do you have any comments about that with your passengers in the car?

In reply to the question about uphill performance. Not a problem at all. At 80 mph it even seems like there is lots of power left. Passing semi-s, plenty of power! The only area where it seems a little slugish is from a standstill but that is only with a light acceleration but if needed pickup is very good when a faster startout is needed because then the electric motor assists. Overall performance is fine and I used to drive Maximas. Bill

Great job! I had similar results in a trip from Poughkeepsie, NY to Nags Head, NC. (and back)

I love the car too -- just not the soft black paint :-D ... but I would buy again!
