Two MAJOR factors:
Sales tax on the new car is more when you sell instead of trade. Tax is on the price AFTER trade.
I had an outstanding loan on the Prius. It was much simpler to have the dealer handle the payoff and retrieve the title etc.
Just getting lazy in my old age I guess.
