Yea, this happened to me. Simply making sure the passenger side temp control was properly set into a detent fixed the issue.

I have the spontaneous recirc problem. it switches on every so often when I start the car.

does anyone know how to change the defaults? I'd hate to bring it in to the dealer for such a minor thing.

AFAIK, and unfortunately, this is what is needed. Only the dealer can change this setting. Several of us have had this done by our dealers for free, perhaps 1 has said their dealer wanted to (or did) charge them. It is a very easy 10 minute computer setting change.
