Default Dash Lights go out.....then back on

2009 TCH.....when driving at night, I have noticed that my dash lights will go off at times..........then back on a few seconds later. I have lived with it for awhile since I am scared to take it in for this. The last thing I need is my dash pulled out to chase this problem......if the dealer can even reproduce it. Has anyone else had this happen?

Does it go out completely as in blank or dim? If it dims, its normal.

I want to say they go out rather than "dim". Does something in particular make them dim?.......then something else triggers them back on? Next night drive I'll my wife watch the dash. This seems to last only a few seconds..............although the last time I noticed it, it lasted quite a bit longer

They dim based upon the level of outside light, so going in and out of a tunnel can cause them to adjust.
If it's only for a second or two and occurs at night, as opposed to dusk, I'd go to the dealer.
You can inadvertently adjust the brightness whilst playing with the odometer reset button, but if you're not touching it, your car may have a virus.

Could you possibly be referring to the lighted blue circles around the outer rim of the main gauges? These will switch from bright, dim, and off corresponding to the current results of the multifunction display's 3 bar chart showing fuel economy for the current trip.

I am familiar with the different "blue halo lights".......but what I am losing is the dash light entirely. If it is late at night and completely dark, and the lights go out...........you cannot read anything on the dash...it's black

...twas a weak attempt at humor, since these cars are like computers
I routinely describe turning the car off and on as 'rebooting'
