Default Consumption Screen RESET Anomaly?

Two fill-ups ago, I noticed shortly after filling the tank and pressing the RESET button on the NAV screen, that the tank average on the Consumption screen hadn't changed much from what it was at the end of the tank, just prior to refueling. Even odder, I thought, as when I normally fill-up, the average changes rapidly for a while until it gets enough miles to be more consistant. The bars had been cleared, however. I pressed th RESET button again, and now it registered 0.0 (and the bars cleared again)...AH! OKaaay...

This week, I refilled again, and paid attention when pressing the RESET button. It cleared the bars, but the average stayed the same! Pressing it a second time, then cleared the average to 0.0. Now I wonder if this is the way it works? I have 10,000 miles on the car, and don't remember this being an issue prior then these 2 times.

Anyone else experience this?? Or am I just crazy? (OK, don't answer that one! I hear it enough from my wife and kids! LOL)

Happens to me all the time. I reset the average one the way to work, and again when leaving work. I have just grown accustomed to pushing it twice. Once to clear the bars and a second time to reset the actual data.

I have not figured out what causes it to reset correctly sometimes, but other it does the twice push reset. If it was a requirement of the car, and not a kinda "silly" extra bonus feature, I would try to get it fixed, but since it is hurting nothing, I just live with it. BTW, I got the nav just for this silly extra, so I guess that make me really silly.

Yes, that happens to mine also. I haven't been able to figure out why. Sometimes one press will reset the bars and the average, and sometimes it takes the second press to reset the average. I'm sure there is some reason for this that I have just not been able to figure out yet.

I have had my TCH long enough to fill it up once. I was under the impression that the act of opening the gas filler door would reset at least some of the data.
I filled er up and looked at the tank MPG average and it was still the same. As soon as I put it into gear and moved, it reset to 0.0 mpg.

Am I crazy ??

Opening the fuel door does reset the tank average, but I don't recall it resetting the nav cosumption displays.

I experienced it for the first time on the last tank. I pressed the reset twice and it still did not reset the tank average. I've left it alone for now. If it doesn't reset next time - I'll try the ((RESET ALL)) button..

The "tank average" on the gauge cluster is only reset by opening the fuel door and refueling (and starting to roll). It has no effect on the "consumption" screen on the Nav, that you have to do manually with the reset button.

I have not located the appropriate spot in any manuals regarding the Camry. On the Prius I had, once you fill up and start the car, after about 15 - 20 seconds, the system notices that you re-filled the tank and automatically resets the Consumption screen on the Nav.

My Camry works the same way. I have gotten in the habit of stopping at the pump, resetting the trips, turning off the car, and filling up. Upon re-starting the car, I hit RESET once and everything clears. Only once have I forgotten to hit reset and in less than 0.1 mile, the system reset by itself.

I hope this helps,

Larry

Wilson, the original poster was not clear in that he was talking about the consumption screen on the NAV and not the tank average in the guage cluster. The nav consumption screen has two reset buttons, one that resets all data to 0 and on that only resets the current data to 0 but keeps the best average. What is odd is that there are some times you pus the "soft" reset button and it clears all the bars off the chart but keeps the numerical data in the short term consumption slot. It also appears that it keeps the data and the new consumption is figured with the old data. If you push this button a second time, it will clear the data out also. I have not pushed the clear all button except for once when I got the car, so I don't know what anomolies it might have.

Larry, fueling up the car has never done anything to my nav consumption screen. The only item that is reset automatically after filling the tank is the tank average in my cluster display. It will reset as soon as I put the car into gear after filling up. If I sit in park after fueling and have the ready light on it will show the previous tank average for an indefinate period of time as long as I don't shift gears. As soon as I shift out of park the tank average drops to 0 then starts to climb again. I really like how this works as I have plenty of time to write down my tank average and odometer reading with the trip reading, then reset the trip reading before the car decideds to erase any data. I also like the nav agerage to not be affected by the fueling as I use it for trip averages, and would hate to see it reset in the middle of a trip just because I needed fuel.
