Coating flaking off evaporator

Coating flaking off evaporator
OK, per TSB-0075-08, flaking of the coating on the evaporator, does anyone know of a way to clean the coating off the evaporator without disassembling the dash? I had a friend who was a mechanic, now passed away, who used to clean evaporators with Easy Off oven cleaner and hose it out of the evaporator chamber. He did not dis-assemble the unit, and only left the cleaner on a few minutes. I am wondering if there is anything else in the evaporator that could possibly be harmed. I believe he sprayed it through the inlet on the exterior of the car by the windshield. Does this sound feasible?
It looks like it is snowing inside the car.
Thoughts everyone? Thanks.

Read the warning on the easy-off can regarding breathing the fumes.
And Id bet it was lysol spray.
Easy-off only works on a prepared HOT surface.

I know it was a foaming oven cleaning spray he used. I am pretty sure it was Easy Off. I know it was not Lysol he was using. He said he cleaned evaporators that way for years. It was to get the grime off of them so they would work more efficiently, not for the smell. I think as long as you rinse the coil well smell would not be a problem.
