If you went far enough without coolant, it could have fried the inverter. I would have thought that replacing the radiator and the inverter would have cost a LOT more than a $1000.00 though. Do you have an estimate of what the dealer is going to fix? This should list every item they will fix or replace. I could see the coolant, radiator, flush and bleed the air from the coolant system (a pain to do), the labor to install everything plus the time to diagnose the problem. Over a $1,000 for that seems high but a listing of the estimate should help.

Probably but there might be a $500 deductible and then you run the risk of them increasing your rates after that. Generally (in NY, not sure about other states), when an accident, you don't have to report it unless it is more than $1000.

Identical failure happened to my car yesterday. Lost all coolant from the inverter reservoir. Could not drive the car because it would not hold coolant. Had the car towed to the closest Dealer Fort Bend Toyota in Richmond Tx. I was sure it was covered by warranty till they pressurized the radiator. External damage visible, must have come from a small rock.
The repair will be finished tomorrow. It should be about $700.00, have not got the final bill yet

That's dangerous, 20 to 30 seconds without brakes for any reason. I would sure have toyota digging into this one. Please be aware you do have a emergency brake that you can use just in case. Be sure to let us know what they find to fix the problem.

The 2007 Camry hybrid was the first year I remember the car being manufactured. Could be you bought your 2007 TCH in 2006.

i ran into a similar situation, I have a 2008 camrywith 60,000. i told was driving to work @ approx 30-40 mph. I slowly came to a stop at a stop sign when my car starting ringing and the monitor displayed "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". My brakes were automatically locked and i couldnt even release the brake manually. i tried off the car and turned it back on, the problem was still there. i was about 5 miles away from work, i managed to drive about 10-`15 mph and got to work. called the dealership who was not helpful over the phone. had the car towed to dealership, they ran diagnostic and found the problem in the electrical panel which tells the car to be in "skid" protection. they had to replace the electrical box/panel not quite sure but it was covered under my extended warranty. the part itself was $1500 and the labor $400. i see alot of hybird owners are running into the similar problems. coincidence???? I believe its a manufacture defect and toyota should be accountable. i going to write to them to let them know, if we all have the issue with the "vsc system" they need a closer look at the problem and fixed it!
