Default camry/prius

I think Toyota is the clear technology leader for hybrids. How similar is the drive system in the Camry to the well-documented drive in the Prius? Thanks.

They're almost identical. The main difference is the larger engine in the Camry (2.4L vs 1.5L).

It's essentially identical; it's HSD. The only real difference is in the numbers (everything's more powerful) and in the fact that the car is much heavier, so the engine ends up running more often when accelerating than with the Prius.

They're almost identical. The main difference is Prius uses low speed high torque MG2 and Camry hybrid uses high speed low torque.

Prius's MG2 drives the ring gear directly. OTOH, the MG2 of Camry hybrid drives the ring gear through a reduction gear as same as Highlander, RX 400h and GS 450h.
The max speed of the GS 450 is 250km/h, so it has two speed reduction gear to meet the wide speed range.

Does the Camry have a beltchain in the PSD like the Prius?

It looks Camry does not have chain drive in the transaxle.

My repair book shows it does use a chain.

1. There is no all-wheel drive option for a Camry, right?

2. Is it permissable to ask what street price for a high-end Camry is? (Backlog?)
