camry options...question
i'm thinking about getting the camry. i'd like the sunroof, the screen, upgraded stereo, etc., but i really don't want leather seats. both dealers i've gone to said it's not possible to even order one without them if i get the other options. they said i'd have to basically pay to have the seats changed after the car came in.
has anybody dealt with this? any idea if it is possible to order everything but the leather?

I went to buyatoyota.com and ran their "build your own" program and it certainly seems possible. There are cars coming in that have cloth seats with either the sun roof or DVD Nav, but not both. Based on this, again it would seem possible, but it is definately rare. You would have to special order one and that would take a certain amount of time. The dealer doesn't want you to lose interest, so would rather sell you one that is already inbound. If the dealer really wanted your business, they would get a car that has what you want (with leather), credit the cost and trade out the seats for cloth. There are A LOT of folks that find the car they want, but want to add leather. The dealer will have no problem selling the leather! If they are unwilling to "sit" on the leather seat covers, then I would have them special order one. If they won't do that, I would look elsewhere, as someone will love to get your business.

Previously had two toyota v6 cars with leather, moonroof, heated seats/mirrors and seat memory. Will pick up new TCH maybe next week. Opted for the basic car (use own my garmin gps) which has standard a lot of the features on old car. In the 6 years of using the 2 other toyota cars, opened the moonroof maybe 15 times? Leather seats, always felt cloth more overall to my likings and think more comfortable. Prestige a plus with leather and that lasts for a while till passengers ride on leather then its taken for granted, ease of cleaning leather the other plus. Will only miss the seat memory. Will state now, we all have our own personal preferences.
Tested tch twice, handled, rode better then old car, with a more comofortable ride. Power, no contest with the v6 but tch power very acceptable, other wise would have opted for the v6 again.
Can't wait to learn how to effectively drive it for gas savings. Three dollars a gallon just a short bit away now.
Luck to all with their Hybrids.

About 15 years ago I was having the same problem, and finally gave in and took the car with the leather seats. I've never looked back, and don't ever want a car without leather again!
Just in case you might be willing to consider leather... How sure are you that you won't like the leather if you get it? I can understand if it is a matter of principal, but if you were like me, you may not want leather for all the wrong reasons! I didn't realize how much easier leather was to take care of, how much cooler it was in the summer (after the first few seconds of dissipating the surface heat) and how much more comfortable it is year round.

I agree that Leather is a better option. Dog hair and slobber wipe right off.
My last two cars had cloth seats and I noticed that they began to ware very quickly because of these shorts I ware with velcro pocket closures. Velcro plays havick on cloth seats!
The camry's screen was mentioned in the first post. That is not available in the Hybrid.
