I am not real happy with how my '07 TCH handles in the snow. It's probably a function of the standard tires that come with the vehicle but the front wheels tend to want to slip easly and during even slow turns the front end can get away from you.

I have also owned many cars, but sorry, I have to disagree that the car is not good in snow.
I live in an area where we have snow on the road for almost 5 months of the year, and I find the car performs very well on snow.
I also have to state that I do not and would never use the all seasons tires on snow for any length of time , since they are basically useless in snow, but that is not the car's fault.
I always use snow tires, and the car handles great for me.
Cheers.

Coming from a 4 wheel drive Toyota 4Runner, I am used to excellent snow/ice traction. I purchased Bridgestone Blizzaks at the start of this winter and am pleased with the traction

Michelin X-Ice here, no complaints.

The stock tires are not rated that well for snow/ice. I have had problems getting up my driveway, but I have problems in my 4x4 also. I am looking at purchasing some spare wheels to mount snow tires on, I'm sure that will help. Looks like that will be a $1000-1200 cost by the time you get wheels, tires, TPMS sensors, and a resetting tool.

I skipped the sensors, the whole deal delivered from TireRack was around $700+. A small price to pay for safety and sure-footed traction.

Why people want to drive in winter road conditions without the proper tires is a real mystery. Blaming the vehicle makes me laugh.

So without the sensors i assume you have a constant dash light? Do you have to reset the car when you put your summer tires with the sensors back on the vehicle?

What snow tires and wheels did you go with?

Yes the dash light is constant, but is easily ignored. I don't even see it anymore. When the OEM's go back on, the light goes out without any dealer intervention or other fiddling.

Michelin X-Ice, the wheels I can't remember the name but they're painted aluminum (I think) and ran around $75~ each. And the vendor used the 'invisible' balance weights, a nice touch.

I purchased my 09 TCH in April, and order Bridgestone Blizzaks and new Toyota steel rims in September. I did not install the TPMS sensors, and in the several months since the tires have been installed, I have yet to see the tire pressure warning light

Thanks for the info. I may skip the sensors also then, $350-400 in my pocket is better than theirs.
