I didn't know that. Do you have something showing exactly when it ends? I thought the credit ended at the end of this year. I have a car on order and should be here in about two months. That would be right around the middle of March. I would love to get that tax credit!

I'm pretty sure the tax credit gets halved at the end of the first quarter, so March 31st ought to be the last day on which you can take delivery and get the current tax credit.

We refuse the car. We'll wait the extra week for a really new one.

What would you have done??
I was told that the one I ordered may not show up for a couple of months. After agreeing to be on the list (and knocking off a few hundred), I was called that evening and they said there was going to be one available in a week or so a couple of hundre miles away. They could trade the one on their lot for the one I wanted (colors, options <read nav> ).

I was also told that it would arrive with a couple of hundred miles on it since they had to drive it to the local dealership. Or, for $400 they could put it on a trailer and get it here without any miles.

I told them that I could wait. As much as I was paying, I wanted to put the first few miles on it myself.

They called me back and said that if I still wanted it, they would pick up the cost themselves (since they had to transport the one locally there for the trade).

I told them that if it was the color, options, hardly any milage, etc., we got ourselves a deal.

When it got here it had a total of 3 miles .

As to your question, I would have done what you did.

I bet someone else bought it and eaither did not like it or decided they could not afford it an broughtr it back. The dealer did not want to take the loss, so he tried to put it on you. I would have walked out!

The tax credit is $2600 if you took delivery by Sept 30, 2006; $1300 if you take delivery by March 31, 2007; $650 if you take delivery by September 30, 2007. There is an IRS bulletin on this

Al,

This link to the IRS clearly shows that the credit is $1300 until March 31, 2007. Then $650 from April 1 - September 30, 2007. Then it's gone.

Randy,

In the past, I have asked for a $1.00 per mile driven amount off the top on a new car and gotten it.

Just a thought....

Not quite.

http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax_hybrid.shtml States: (as did the Toyota dealer that sold me my TCH this past week)

2007 Camry Hybrid, October 1 2006 - March 31 2007 - 1300.00
2007 Camry Hybrid, April 1 2007 - Sept 30 2007 - 650.00

Prior to september of last year the tax credit was 2600.00

If you check that link is to a government website. switch to the toyota section, you get the numbers I listed above.
