Default 5000 mile service?

Nearing our 5000 mile service time-frame......other than oil change what do they do? Do most of you use the dealer for this service? What could I expect to pay? I have never used a dealer service department in the past for scheduled maintenance........but with a hybrid, maybe I should. Any Toyota discount "coupons" out there? Any thoughts/opinions/input would be appreciated.

Best to consult your maintenance schedule to see what is needed and when, but generally, only oil and filter and a rotation at 5M.
I paid $29 at a dealer for an oil change and $20 for the rotation (I had a warranty repair needed so I did both at the same time), but others have paid up to $75 or more.
Ignore the dealer's maintenance schedule.
Dealers are the most expensive option out there...avoid them, unless you need a covered repair,
You don't need to go to the dealer for an oil change and rotation, however.

Trouble with avoiding a dealer is that I've always been unable to locate alternative service with synthetic 0w-20 oil.
Besides, I like their free coffee and donuts

Will take my TCH in for the 15,000 mile check only because I want them to check the brakes. Seem to be grabbing and some squeaking once in a while.

I will change my oil myself so I am sure it gets the 0W20 Mobil One. I am particular who touches my car. I really don't trust the dealer either, prefer to do things myself.

Just took my 09 in for the 6,000 mile oil change. The dealer does mine FREE for the life of the car every 3,000 miles. They wanted to rotate and balance the tire at $69.00 per trip. I told them no thank you and went to my trusted tire dealer and had a LIFETIME balance and rotation service done for $79.00.

I'm surprised that they are doing it for free and every 3k miles. They are losing money. The owners manual recommends and oil change every 5k. That's about an extra 33 oil changes in 100,000 miles.

Uh...I think it's an extra 13 oil changes, but fear not the risk to the dealer. I'm sure they will find stuff to "fix" that doesn't need fixing...and charge for it.

Ah yes sir you are right. It was 20 at a 5k interval and 33.333 for a 3k interval. I typed in the 3k interval rather than the difference. I can always count on you to catch my mistakes!! :-P

I totally agree on the over priced items they fix needlessly.

Dealer around here recommended an 'oil flush' for $100 twice a year.
Many gas stations recommend them once every 70,000 miles and typically charge $30.
Dealers are NOT Toyota, they are independent business people trying to "make a buck"...yours!
