08 TCH Recall Experience
So... I took my 08 TCH in today for the recall work. About two hours after dropping it off, the dealer called and said that they needed to "keep the car for a day or two." When I inquired as to why, they said that a "bolt had been threaded the wrong way when assembled as part of the gas pedal." They said that they had never seen this before, but "wanted to make sure that the car was 100% before returning it to me."
Has anyone else had this type of experience with the recalls? When I asked for me clarity, they explained that it was not related at all to the recall and was just a random coincidence.

That is a BS answer from the dealer. Even if true (which I doubt) all they would do is run a re-threader thru the hole and clean up the threads. Maybe 15 minutes at most for that. At the absolute worst case, they drill it out and use a Heli-Coil insert to fix it. Maybe an hour for that fix.
Someone screwed the pooch on your car about something (I have seen them hit in the parking area and fixed, seats cut by a tech that forgot he had a screwdriver in his back pocket when he sat in the seat, etc.)
In this case, I am starting to wonder exactly how they are "re-shaping" the floor pan for additional clearance under the pedal. Try calling them up and ask if you can see the car as you are curious how something that simple could take 1 to 2 days to fix.

OK,
A simple re-thread of the hole I can buy. The tech must not have had a re-threader tap and the other guys would not let him borrow one. That I can understand and it looks like they fixed it early today.

Under the 90L recall, Camry Hybrids get the pedal length and floor modifications only.
Under the same recall, other Camrys get the BTO flash as well, and those with the CTS pedal get the pedal assembly shim mod.
I believe that the 07 and 08 Camry Hybrids are all included.
Even though I have had 90L the recall work done on my 09 TCH, I have yet to receive the letter. According to my dealer, that might take weeks.
How was the "Floor Modification" accomplished? I have heard they beat it down. I'm not sure I want that done to the floor pan, seems like it would weaken the floor or cause a possible leak if there is a sealed seam they are pulling by beating it down. I don't think I want my pedal cut off either, how about a new molded pedal to replace the original? Sounds like poor solutions to the problem if there really is one.
I have had no issues what so ever with my all weather mats which are installed over the top of my carpeted mats.

I will post the precise wording after I can refer to the paperwork.
I am hardly the expert on why mine was included, although the folks above seemed to provide a substantive summary
The dealer here did treat me pretty well though. They gave me a $25 gift card for their service/accessory shop, as well as a $10 gas gift card and $500 towards another car. I am not sure if other dealers are doing similar things, but I did appreciate the gesture.
