Why are fast chargers needed for electric vehicles?

Re: Why are fast chargers needed for electric vehicles?
When doing a trip beyond the out-and-back, battery range, fast DC chargers let you hop from charger-to-charger for longer distances. My typical daily range is 700-750 miles per day. The operational scenario:
- 100% SOC first drive of day - typically done overnight so the car is ready at dawn. This segment typically is 3-4 hours long.
- 40-60% SOC - just enough to reach the next SuperCharger with a reserve, 20-30 miles. Arriving with 5-10%, gives the Tesla the maximum charge rate, 170 kW, for the triangular charging rate versus SOC. This typically takes 15-20 minutes or long enough for a biology break. Each segment runs about 2 hours of driving but it varies.
- Using L2 midway - sometimes a SuperCharger is located on a 20 mile detour. In such cases, one looks for a free, L2 EVSE along the direct route. The slower charge rate compensates for the time lost taking the detour.
