An idea I had (although the ACLU would never allow it to happen) would be to use prison inmates for energy generation. Consider this: During the day, prison inmates don't do much other than watching TV, eating, and killing/raping each other. If you constructed an array of Stairmaster-like devices, you could make these career criminals run on these machines for 6-8 hours per day.

They could be offered time-off of high energy generation (instead of time-off for good behavior).

I was thinking, too, that prison inmates could be forced to sleep in little tubes which could capture excess body heat and convert it to electricity.

I wonder how much power could be generated by using a class of people who are otherwise useless?

 

I love the idea of prisoners for energy. Almost like that movie "matrix".

This is bringing back to me the oar room scene in Ben Hur. Trying to imagine it with an announcment Ceasar is on board and wants to water ski!

 

This would work really well in the US with such a huge percent of the population in prison.
