Default Faith & Environmentalism

Newsweek article on evangical Christians very concerned about the environment.

While I'm of a like faith, I think everyone would consider taking care of the Earth the moral and spiritual thing to do.

... and then there's the opposite spectrum of faith, the fundies who are determined to destroy the environment and start wars so that their saviour can come and rescue them and leave non-christians in eternal torture. Unfortunately they are in power, as well as being at least 44% of the voters.

Sad.

As soon as I meet one of those fundies who is determined to destroy the environment I'll start voting democrat. I'm an independent but I haven't had a good democrat that I wanted to vote for since Paul Simon many many years ago. I would say that no party has the corner on environmentalism. Both parties have done good things to promote it and bad things.

And I have heard it said that Republicans are the ones buying SUVs. I thik that is incorrect. I have seen quite a few kerry/edwards stickers on suvs and very few W stickers. But anyway back to the topic.

I think most spiritual people fundamentalist or wicken and everything in between respect nature.

If biblethumping literalists applied a golden rule to anything more than the christian Self, I guess we wouldn't have a problem of apathy toward anything, including the environment.

Many of your so called "biblethumping literalists" do apply it to more than the christian self. You wouldn't know that though because in your mind you are good and they are evil. Therefore, your holyer than thou attitude dictates that since you are an environmentalist they couldn't possibly be. Because if they were equal with you that would put them equal with you moraly on an issue and you can't have that.

Seriously, you shouldn't try to generalize. I think you need to get out and talk to people with diverse ideas and you may find that very few people fit into your preconceived ideas of who they are and what they believe in. Sure there are flakes out there that exactly fit. But they are rare and have very little influence in the world.

Anyone hear about the open-source data collecting computer Military Intelligence had running called able danger yet?
Apparently it collecs several terrabytes of info in general.

It picked up seriously dangerous indications about 911's Otta and 4 other of his terrorist friends. It revealed something was afoot, in planning well before it happened.

Since military has no jurisdiction over civilian, they were compelled to recommend to the FBI these guys should be at least picked up and interrogated.
They were very concerned about this cell and they petitioned 4 seperate times.

This was blocked by the administration to avoid any political problems by hassling legal immigrants holding green cards.
The terrorists photos were presented to them and they went so far as to put yellow stickies over their faces to cover them up and strictly forbid any information transfers between departments.

The info is just coming out and is collaborated by several upper level personnel who were involved with the project.

There is quite a bit of buzz about it but I've yet to hear anything from CNN or FOX regarding this......

I don't think its quite that simple. All they need is a good lawyer and not talk. The lawyer can then sue for wrongfull imprisonment. The government couldn't just say "we have proof they were up to something" Because chances are that proof would be clasified or would reveal the method used to gain the info.

Those guys were all involved in drug running, so was Osama, and that's the entire connection to Afghanistan. The FBI was following them for quite a while, but the CIA forced them to back off investigating because they were being protected. The big picture is a lot more complicated than most people think, and very much different than the official story. Sadly most people will never know more than what the government and corporate media tell them, so we go on thinking it had nothing to do with our own government and everything to do with rogue terrorists that we must seek and destroy. Just like the Hitler's Germany, we are being deceived to further the goal of world domination. It's too difficult to face the truth, and what the consequences of the truth would mean to us, so we cling to the tales they feed us in the hope that they know better and are right.
