LOL, I liked that.

Site of the former Detroit Museum of African-American History, which took in over $135.
For some reason, I nearly spat out my drink at that.

Now, I wonder what's to become of the Detroit Zoo?

C'mon, you know the Detroit Zoo is safe. Its not even IN Detroit!

IMO Detroit missed a golden opportunity with the casinos. They should have torn down the old RR station (for scrap!) and had one of the casinos off of Mich. Ave. I would then tear down Tiger Stadium (for scrap of course) and put in some restaurants, shops, etc.

Now that I think about it, the Onion report is not such a bad idea

Very funny article. I actually go to school downtown at Wayne State. It's surprisingly a very nice area. I'm not too clear on all of the information about the casinos, but from what I hear the ones that are currently running are just temporary locations. They plan on building permanent ones with hotels and other accomodations in the near future. As much as I can't stand Kwame, he has been doing a good job of turning things around.

The new MGM casino/hotel is currently under construction. It has only take 5+ years to get it rolling!

The biggest problem with Detroit (IMO) is the city council. If you want to fix Detroit FAST then create districts and have each of them answer to a particular group of people. The current "at-large" system allows them to operate without consideration for most residents.
