3K miles on NAH, bought in May in Oregon.
200 mile highway run to Olympia WA in 90 deg F temp
On return trip the SES light, Hybrid warning light and VDC all come on
Quickly lost speed to < 60 MPH
Surging engine with constant peddle pressure, worse with time.
Pulled off at next exit and drove 2 lanes home.
Couldn't get over 48 MPH
Lost speed on hills
Periodic surging revs without transfer to wheels until > 38 MPH (i.e. where the electric motor normal kicks off)
Stopped and restarted a couple of times, no improvement.
No regen braking whine.
Lots of surging RPM during some but not all accelerations from stops.
This was a Saturday evening.
Made it home. Let car rest. Started Sunday, rough start.
Local dealer said bring in Tuesday.
Tuesday morning drive to dealer: "Normal" (of course!)
Call from dealer later: codes said water pump on hybrid system to cool batteries (? is this right ?) was shorting out.
Will take at least two days to get parts, should not be driven.
Need to drive to Sacramento next month. Hot hot hot. Not happy.....

BTW: first possible symptoms:
No acknowledgement chime on 'lock' from fob
Trunk did not open from fob, did open from dash

 

That doesn't sound right. I don't think there's ANY liquid cooling system on the batteries. There certainly isn't any on the Prius. More plausible would be the inverter water pump.

If the inverter overheats due to its water pump failing, replacing one is usually in the thousands of $.

Please be sure to get the codes (DTCs) and keep us up to date on what they replaced.

Im having problems with my car, it keeps running extremely hot, I never allow it to get in the red through the heater blows cold air. i have replaced everything the auto mechanic told me what could be wrong, then i was looking up on line that the water pump could be bad, I went to car part store to had them check and they told me as long as it is not leaking and the pulley is turning,the water pump is good. is that true or could it be anything else?thanks in advance.

 

Seems off that your info says you have a Honda hybrid yet you're posted in an Nissan area.

 

What is the output here? Did you find parts? I think you can fix them on your own if the genuine parts are found.

No, there is definitely no water to the hybrid batteries. Water pump on the hybrid system is to cool the inverter.
