Default Just took home 2009 NAH $20,350 after tax credit + tax and fees, comments?

On the east coast, we negotiated to $22,700 for a 2009 NAH that had the convenience package (MSRP $1,300), floor mats, and wheel locks. However (and this may be a mistake) we didn't negotiate the prices of any extended warranties along with that and ended up balking at the prices. Does anyone think that the warranty is worth it, especially for reliability in later years?

The price is comparable to what some of you are getting in CA, so I am pretty happy. But as a new owner, it would be nice to see what advice you guys have for breaking it in.

On the 10 mile or so trip home I got 37 mpg on the average meter. This seems a bit high compared to what other people are getting so maybe the meter is not calibrated.

This afternoon the car would not start (ready light would not turn on) for about 15 minutes. The ABS light was on, indicating some error. After a while it worked normally, but I hope this isn't the start of some bad problems. Anyone else encounter this before?

No. That sounds odd.

He was able to replicate the problem. It turned out not to be a mechanical error. The discussion is the $19,949 thread.

Does anyone notice a whizzing/whirring sound from the car less than a minute after you turn it off? It is coming from under the hood. I feel like a motor in there is adjusting something but I'm not sure. If anyone else notices this or knows what it is, please let me know.

^ yes, not sure what it is, but my older nissan always made sounds when it was off (lots of ticks). I assume that the whirling sound is the hybrid system adjusting itself

Gasoline engines always make ticking sounds after you turn them off. But this is something different. As long as other people get it too I'm not worried.

Ours makes a whirring noise and some other sounds. I figure it was just the car relaxing.

If it's a motor buzzing noise for a few seconds, that's normal. I believe it's part of the braking system. You should hear it sometimes around the time you brake as well in normal driving.

Priuses make the a very similar sound after shutdown but at a different pitch and it IS the brake pump. On the Prius, if you pump the brakes while stationary, even w/car turned off, you'll start hearing the pump buzz. Not sure if the NAH does it as I haven't tried it on my mom's car.

If anyone wants this car, Woodbury Nissan in New Jersey is offering the base model at $19,476 + tax, fees before 6/30/09. This does not include the federal tax credit.

Too bad I only heard of this today. Their salesman was not taking me seriously when I told him we were ready to make a purchase.
