I do both and I am uncertain when the light dust really builds up now that my commute is different (mostly freeway).

I learned the same way in Texas... That's why they're called accelleration and decelleration ramps.... You think.... LOL

It seems that this carbon build up is only a Nissan phenomenon, because I've talked with Toyota and they say they don't have those issues... (maybe)

Just passed 91k on my 2007 NAH and no build up issues. Talked to a veteran Tech and service writer at my local dealership and he agreed that occasional hard acceleration onto the highways will certainly help clear out any gunk, and given I learned to drive on an old clunker that required that, I have always accelerated as required (and then some, occassionally) and so while it may affect mileage a bit, having no issues regarding carbon build up and no rough starts certainly makes it well worth not changing my habits.

That said, I passed by a maroon Plug In NAH on 880 a few weeks ago and was just envious... so i had to keep driving a bit faster to pass and not think about it.

That was probably me... I commute on 880 from SJ to Emeryville.

Mine started nicer this morning. I drove to LA on Saturday and back on Monday... 820 miles on 20.7 gallons. Think was 39mpg, could have done on a single tank, but I put 7 gallons in down there.
Would have done better if didn't hit a constant 30+mph headwind.
