Since the Altima Hybrid has a fuel tank capacity of 20 gallons you will need to get 40 mpg. This not impossible! You will definitely turn off your A/C and and take it easy on the acceleration.

Steve, how did you make out on that tank. Any update?

 

Definitely would have made it. Had 605 mile @ 1/4 tank when I was forced to fill up due to a long trip. It took 14.7 gallons and the display was at 42.5 at the time.

I hate when you are on a roll. good mpg, good distance and then something happens and you are forced to either fill up to get cheap gas, or being forced to speed for whatever reason, or a long trip you don't want to worry about running too low on fuel. I just came back from a long trip to Wilmington NY and was able to make it there and back in one tank. I did fill up when I got back to jersey because I had my family and did not want to risk a breakdown. It was also one of my lowest mpg tanks at 39.5 .

Did 801 miles on the last tank.

First 50 miles were highway driving with the car indicating average mileage of just under 39 if I remember correctly. From that point on it was all daily commute and local driving. Ideal weather here in NJ the last couple of weeks resulted in AC use probably less than 15% of the time. Also used every technique I could to maximize mileage (a thank you to other posters who gave those tips). Also have an excellent commute to work on some lightly traveled back roads where you can move along at 35 - 40 MPH and really enjoy the drive.

Tank was hand filled with 17.36 gallons. Although I believe I topped it off completely the average mileage of 46.1 MPG is a little difficult for me to believe. I believe the car calculated mileage was about 46.5 or maybe 46.7 so I was anticipating about 44.5 hand calculated as typically the car runs about 2 MPG over the hand calculated number. I'll check that car calculated MPG when I download the picture off the camera. I'm pretty sure the gauge was noticeably (barely) above the empty line, but I was about to get the Garden State Parkway and even though I felt I could wring another 30+ miles out of that tank I wasn't going to chance it.

First 3822 miles has a hand calculated MPG of 41.0. The 6 tank averages have been 40.6, 38.9, 42.3 (about a half tank after learning some tips from this board), 36.2 (95+% highway), 42.9 and the last one 46.1.

Through 10 weeks of ownership the car has been excellent.

46 mpg on the display is certainly possible, I've seen 50+ on extended trips (but never on a whole tank - the cold startup penalty is too much).

Out of curiosity, how long is your commute? Short trips are a killer.

 

Well my hat is off to you all. We have managed in 25,000 miles to have two significant single trips in the 40's, but we have never had an average tank better then 38. Granted for the first year we owned the car Nissan was putting the wrong oil in it, but we only saw about a 2 MPG average improvement from 34-36 to 36-38 from the change. Congrats.

 

My commute is approximately 23 miles one way. Highest posted speed limit the entire route is 45 MPH, ideal for this car.

 

Yup, those sound like ideal driving conditions for the NAH. Congrats!

 

Ive hit 717 miles. I also ran out of gas (pretty, dumb, huh) as I was gauging off of the tripometer. Interesting that when the gas engine conked out I was doing 72mph in evmode! I got off the next exit and filled up; thanks to AAA as the stop I got off of had no gas for 7 miles. So I was trapped with 2 miles left until gas came in 20 minutes (lucky).

I for the life of me don't know how you'd hit 800 miles UNLESS you never went above 45mph.

Still, this is a great vehicle, peppy, good road feel and I've averaged 36mpg over nearly 6000 miles.
