3 month checkup and Air Deflector Recall
Hello, all. I am taking my Altima hybrid in for it's first 3 month checkup. Is there anything that other people have had issues with that they can recommend looking into? This is what I'm going to have them do:
-- oil change
-- Air Deflector recall (more details below)
-- noise with shocks? (when I go over a speed bump, my back shocks make a clicking noise)
Anything I'm missing? Thanks.
-- Jimmy
On July 12, 2007, I received a "Service Campaign" notice for free service:
"... your 2007 NISSAN... may need to have the ALTIMA AIR DEFLECTOR Program performed." And here is a link with more info about the recall
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...D2A5C9866C1%7D
The voluntary recall affects 2007 Altimas with four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engines produced between September 2006 and May 2007 at Nissan's Smyrna plant and between October 2006 and May 2007 at its Canton, Miss., plant.
The Altima is Nissan's best-selling car, with more than 114,000 sold from January through May, and it is the fourth best-selling mid-sized car in the U.S.
Nissan North America Inc. spokeswoman Frederique Le Greves said flammable objects, such as cigarettes, could enter the filter and catch fire.

We just had Nissan do an oil change and check-up. Our Altima Hybrid did qualify for the "Service Campaign" (Recall). They replaced the reflector and the air filter. Everything took less then a half hour to complete and all is well.
We are now ready for our first long trip into non-Nissan Hybrid states. NJ to VA and back. I'm sure it will be a great trip.

At what miles are you doing your oil changes? I brought ours in at 3,500 because the little warning service light was blinking in my face... and the dealership I took it to told me the car only needed oil changes every 5,000 miles... and he would reset the guage.
That tweaked my sixth sense a little.

I had my first oil change at 3020 and my second at 6400. I had Nissan do the second, as I wanted to make sure I had the right oil. The sticker they placed in my window says my next change is due at 10000.

3750 Seems low in this day and age especially since my '01 Civic (150k) & '01 A6 (93k) both were 10k per manus. Even more so since the engine isn't always on for 3750 miles or may just be idling.
I'm going to do it though for warranty purposes though.

I just did my first oil chage last weekend at 2,600 miles. Probably way too early but I remember when new cars were on a 1,000 mile schedule for the first oil change - I don't think it will hurt anything. I'll now stick to a 5,000 schedule.
They put the oil filter in a less than perfect spot as it drains all over part of the sub frame making a mess.
I only put in 4.5 quarts figuring I'd top off the rest of the 3/8 of a quart it calls for after I ran it for a bit and then check the dipstick. When I went to do that it was right up to the full mark on the dip stick with just the 4.5 quarts so I'm not sure if the dipstick is off or the requirement is wrong - I'm leaving it at the present level as that's where it was before I changed the oil.
I used Pennzoil 0W-20 that I purchased on line from the oil-store.com - cheaper than buying from a local vendoe even with the shipping.
I purchased 10 oil filters and gaskets from nissanparts.com. The filters were 3.99 each with free shipping.
Edit - Sorry, purchased the oil filters from Nissan Parts Online at:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214459
I had to punch in a 2006 Altima to get the parts to list but the filters are the same for both years.

BTW - the oil filter that was installed by Nissan at the factory was a 1520865F0B.
I purchased a filter when I first picked up the car at the dealers and it was a 1520865F00.
The 10 filters I ordered on line are 1520865F0A.
They're all the same filter according to the parts guy at my Nissan dealer.
