That may be true with today's technology, but never forget the forward march of technology. Just recently a company unveiled solar panels with much higher efficiency than those currently on the market. While they have the patent now and presumably have premium pricing, eventually when this becomes commoditized it has the potential to cut the cost per watt of solar by 30-40%.

It is very likely additional technological breakthroughs might make renewable power cheaper than coal in this century. If this becomes the case emissions will go away on their own.
