Transponder not-so-antitheft system
“If I want to take your Civic, I’ll do it in 10 seconds,” he said. Then he confirmed Hyser’s story. The mythical Honda override exists: It’s a series of presses and pulls of the emergency brake. Each car, it seems, has a unique override code, which correlates to the VIN.
An article I came across in Wired the other day, it specifically mentions the Civic hybrid.
Years ago in NYC radio theft became so prevalent that people were purchasing removable radios and leaving signs in the window that read "no radio". I cam across one car that had a doberman inside along with a sign that read "new radio". Now that's my idea of theft deterrance.
If they want it bad enough, they will take it by any means.
It was great when I got my new Benz with Lo-jack and the new design Bose DVD navigation. Shortly thereafter, the window was broken, alarm was blaring and the $5,000 Bose was gone. I was left with that cute little card for the radio that has the unique code that keeps the thieves away
.
Once the new Lexii sedans hit the streets, I'm sure the "racers" will be licking their chops.
