SUV Backover Deaths
It's not like SUVs *can't* be driven safely... They usually just *aren't*.
I had the novel concept of an intermediate license classification between "C" and "CDL" for SUV owners. This wouldn't be a *punitive* course, but would involve instruction that SUV owners really should know, like:
-- Compensating for a larger "blind" spot.
-- How to parallel park without hitting other parked cars.
-- How to judge appropriate stopping distances for defensive/emergency stops.
-- Understanding the vehicle's turning radius and anticipating the risks of "rollover".
-- Efficient driving techniques to maximize fuel economy.
This might be a two-week course that would grant the driver an "S" class license.
The benefit to this program is that it would weed out lazy/incompetent drivers and would improve the skills of marginal drivers.
