"Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today," unveiled The Guardian.

Temperatures would rise by between 1.8 and 4.0 Celsius in the 21st century

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies, offered $10,000 to scientists and economists for articles that question the report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as informed The Guardian
The newspaper unveiled the lobby group, "an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings" of the UN's report, which predicts temperatures would rise by between 1.8 and 4.0 Celsius in the 21st century. . . ."

Hummm, $10,000, is that the first year's fuel cost for a large SUV?

The irony is their business is returning the earth to a second, carboniferous period. The first step is to make the carbon. I wonder if future intelligent life will also wonder about the curious layer of radioactive decay products?

In my humble opinion, "science" has been abused on both sides of the argument. The "anti" camp refuses to acknowledge the irrefutable temperature trends. The "pro" camp refuses to acknowledge the other four external causal effects. The future could prove interesting.
