No country ever officially invades. To be politically correct, you always 'assist at the request of the oppressed'. Or you go in to anticipate potential action by a regime using made up threats such as WMD that were not there. Sound familiar from other WWII stories? It's all the same but how it is presented depends on who has the upper hand. Different name, but same stuff that happens. The bottom line is still foreign troops in a (formerly) soverign country.
Are people in Iraq really better off? Would the 100,000 that have died agree with that? How many have died before the invasion, and how many during and after? Not all the 100,000 have died as a result of the insurgency, many were killed by US troops and bombs. Is the idea of a future democracy enough to morally justify that? When will this future democracy occur? Is the idea of freedom alone a justification? How about food availability, medical care, education? How many schools are active in Iraq now vs before the invasion? Maybe some of this will change in the future, and I would hope so, but at present - other than the 'whiff of future freedom' I really doubt that people in Iraq are better off then before, or in fact even close to the same as before, and certainly not o the point of justifying 100,000 dead.

Civic Duty, you know the answer to that question, it has been answered 10000 times. Unfortunately for us, we are a "fossil fuel driven" society (thus why GreenHybrid matters) and you know we need a stable oil supply. Stability in the Middle East region is important to your and my way of life, as long as we rely on trucks and trains to deliver food to us and cars and buses to deliver us to our daily lives.

I'm not going to continue to contribute political rambling to this topic. I've said my piece, and reasonable people know I'm correct. I'm done here - LATE.......

The US needs to get out of Iraq and do what it can to keep it's government be like Jordan's - not Syria's.
Next, the US needs to address it's economic and domestic affairs. It should be obvious that we don't have the energy to go into Iran, Syria, N Korea, etc....many great nations fall because they overextend themselves.

We will never invade N Korea unless they strike first - they have nukes and Kim Jong Il knows how to push a button and they don't have any oil. The same if Iran gets/develops nukes but they do have oil. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Indonesia, and Nigeria are definitely invadable - they have no nukes and they got oil. No one seems to care about the rest of the world - they don't have any oil either.
