Default Hybrid Flexcars in SD

Getting a Hybrid Now as Easy as Getting a Cup of Coffee in San Diego

Has anyone in the SD area seen these flexcars? What a good idea. My college (Furman University, Greenville, SC) had something like this, but it was for bicycles. You could pay to buy into the communal bike program, you would get a key that would unlock any of the omnipresent Earth Cruiser bikes on campus, and you had an instant ride back to your dorm or apartment or class.

Thanks... I saw these around but had no clue what "flexcar" meant or why it was a Civic Hybrid.

Yeah, what a great idea! I hope this company goes public someday I will be waiting to invest.

I think people are doing the math and realizing that actually owning a car might not pay off. Not only the cost of the vehicle but insurance, gas, maintenance, parking fees, tickets, tolls, registration.....

If you live in the burbs a car is still a must-have, but for urban dwellers it is very different.

they have the same/similar programs in NYC, DC, Boston, etc. A car gets stationed on a block and people reserve time slots on the web.

Usually Prii, or HCHs. Some trucks avail for when you need to haul something too

In the Boston area we have zipcar.com. Seems rather expensive, almost like renting a car but if don't own one and need wheels for a couple of days I guess this works well.
