I honestly wouldn't care if people bought hummers, IF the price of gasoline fully reflected the cost of securing access to it and if all the costs associated with pollution associated with gasoline consumption is reflected as well. I accept the fact that people's preferences are different. To that end, a hefty gasoline tax might be appropriate. A gasoline tax applied to everyone will tend to cause people to make more fuel efficient buying decisions.

How is it that a vehicle which sells at 25% the level of the Prius is considered mainstream, yet the Prius is still considered an inconsequential player?

Inconsequential, not in Boulder, they're everywhere. The Whole Foods parking lot looks like a hybrid car show. Yet there also lots of Hummers and every variety of SUV and 4x4. My 2x4 Tacoma is the oddball.

Because people oggle Hummers in every auto show, they are in more ads than any other model, they all over the toy stores, they are bought as "business vehicles" and made into billboards....

The way so many people act, you would think Hummers give them an orgasm.

You need to get the stiff suspension, for that.

Guys, seriously......

Can we try for a little bit of objectivity here? I'll be the first to TRY to be objective.

Hummer H2 fuel economy SUCKS! No ifs, ands, or buts about it. I think most people who buy one know that going in.

The issue is, the growth in Hummer sales is NOT H2. It's H3. H3 is very competitive in its segment. It's not a Prius and was never intended to be. It's in the same vehicle size and weight class as other mid size RWD based Sport Utes.
  • BMW X5 (15 / 21 Manual, 16/21 Auto)
  • Land Rover LR3 (14 / 19 V6, 14 / 18 V8)
  • Mercedes ML350 (16 / 20)
  • Hummer H3 (16 / 19 Auto, 16 / 20 Manual)
No, these are not world-beating fuel economy numbers but they are consistent with other more popular mid-sized SUVs like
  • Ford Explorer (15 / 20 V6, 14 / 20 V8)
  • GMC Envoy (15 / 21 I6 or V8)
  • Chevy T'Blazer (15 / 21 I6 / V8)
  • Mitsubishi Montero (15 / 19)
  • Jeep Grd Cherokee (17 / 21 V6)
  • Toyota 4Runner (17 / 21 V6, 16 / 19 V8)
  • VW Touareg (16 / 21 V6, 14 / 18 V8)

Peace,

Martin

That would explain the name...

Around here, we have one Hummer H2 wrapped with an ad for a tanning salon and a yellow one with window stickers on everything advertising "Trophy Wives" (not sure what's the story with that one, and don't really want to know). The tanning salon one sits in someone's driveway at home except for errands; the "Trophy Wives" one sits in the parking lot of a strip mall every day except holidays.

If only I had a point and shoot camera. I'd snap a pic of this little woman who lives around here who drives a *pink* H2 with *gigantic* chrome wheels (22's at least).

An off-road vehicle with wheels that would not hold up leaving the pavement....hmmmm. When you're narcassistic, you probably love being irrational nearly as much as yourself.

Unfortunately that article did not breakdown which sales were H1, H2, H3.....but Dallas has plenty of H2s and I see them daily.

Another wide picture here. (I'm ahead )
