Default Driving Television's Fuel Economy Shootout

A Canadian program called Driving Television did 200 kilometers in 7 cars; three hybrids and their three non-hybrid counterparts along with the new Jetta TDI manual transmission. I won't spoil the full results in the first post, but I know at least one very active member will be apalled by the results!

I just watched the whole video. Most of the trip seemed to be stuck in stop-and-go traffic. As a result, all the cars except for the Ford Escape Hybrid and Prius did quite poorly. However, a few of thier "equivalents" were pretty poor. The escape comparison made sense, but Prius compared to a 4cyl Camry? V6 Hybrid compared to 4cyl Accord? Those are not exactly fair comparisons IMHO. They should have compared hte Prius to the Corolla, and the HAH to the V6. No mention of the Civic either.

A Scion xA with a 1.5 L engine, same block as the Prius, would be a better match than the 1.8 L Corolla. However, the Prius has a substantial amount of internal space and the Camry is not that far off.

We have an 01 Echo and 03 Prius and the Prius with the same engine has more internal room.

its because toyota didn't want to give them a corolla, if they did then the hybrid figures wouldn't be as impressive.

Overall good video, never knew such a show exsited until now on my home land!
