Default Bill and Eva have salt fever, set 212-MPH electric land speed record

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, On Two Wheels, USA, Racing, Videos

Salt fever is an affliction that drives those infected to spend the better part of the year dreaming, scheming and building machines to race across the alien landscape that is the Bonneville Salt Flats in search of land-speed-record glory. Bill Dube and Eva Håkansson have a high-voltage case of it.

Now, if those names seem familiar, there's good reason. Bill is a pioneer of the lithium-powered drag racing scene and the man behind the well-known Killacycle, while Eva has made her mark on Pike's Peak. Her ElectroCat - a converted 1990 Cagiva Freccia C12R - was the first electric motorcycle to complete the Race to the Clouds.

Their attention now, however, is devoted mostly to the KillaJoule, a streamlined electric sidecar motorcycle. After a number of upgrades that were implemented this past year, they vehicle recently smashed the previous record of 191.488 miles per hour with a pair of runs that averaged an impressive 212.040 mph. And they aren't done yet. Later this week at the invite-only Mike Cook's Bonneville Shootout, they hope to break the 224.201-mph mark and thus become the fastest sidecar motorcycle of any type. This is a feat they are quite confident of achieving, having learned they set this last record using only half of the possible 300 horsepower that KillaJoule is now capable of.

Scroll below to watch them tell their awesome story, along with footage from their past speedy deeds and this most recent record run. You can keep current on their shenanigans and cheer them on by following their KillaCycle Racing FaceBook page.Continue reading Bill and Eva have salt fever, set 212-MPH electric land speed record
