Hello Everyone! I am a new member form Phoenix, AZ. I have quite a few questions, most of which can likely be answered by various internet searches & discussions. In the interest of expediency, I'll defer to your collective expertise. One area I can't seem to get any clarity on is variations of flex-fuel vehciles. That is: Can I purchase/convert a vehicle to operate on CNG and E85? Are there hybirds that operate on CNG/E85/Electric?

I'm fairly confident there may be some engineering / technological restrictions involved. I simply want to strategize on the most possible advantages "under the hood".

Thank you for your input. I'm looking forward to the education and "going green" ASAP!

Hi,

Welcome to GreenHybrid. As a suggestion, you might update your user profile so folks'll know who you are. Now for your questions:
  • Can I purchase/convert a vehicle to operate on CNG and E85? - I believe Honda sells a Civic already converted to CNG but I don't know the details. I think any "flex fuel" vehicle can take E85.
  • Are there hybirds that operate on CNG/E85/Electric? - There have been successful conversions. The French converted a Prius to CNG. I don't know if the Ford Escape Hybrid and GM two-mode hybrids are "flex fuel" but suspect they might be. The "Electric" are called "plug-in" hybrids and there has been a lot of buzz and some individual conversions.
GOOD LUCK!
Bob Wilson
