Unhappy new hybrid owner

I just bought my 2006 Ford Escape 4WD a couple of weeks ago and while it is a dream to drive, the mileage is not what I expected. I'm not a jack rabbit driver and am hoping for some info on how to improve my MPG. Nice to see so many people driving hybrids!

Congratulations on your investment in the future! As with all cars, your Escape needs time to break in. Your technique will also improve with more driving. Learning how to use the Instantaneous Fuel Consumption Display plays a huge role in the mileage you get. Also, be sure your tires are inflated to at least what Ford says they should be, and more if your feel comfortable. Mine are at 44psi front and 42 rear. If you live in a colder climate, there isn't much you can do about the winter weather. That will definitely ruin your mileage. Here in Wisconsin, the weather has been in the 20's lately and my mileage has plummeted into the 50's. Use this as an opportunity to refine your technique driving before you get your mileage higher and start stressing about keeping the numbers up there If you get a lot of snow where you live, the 4WD should come in handy this winter. Tomorrow morning it is supposed to snow here, and I'm not looking forward to my morning drive in the Insight's light 1900 pound body on small tires. If you don't live in a cold, snowy area then enjoy this time of year you don't need to use Air Conditioning in the car. That will reduce your mileage significantly when in use. Good luck and welcome to the enlightened group of Hybrid Drivers!

Hello, and welcome to the club. One thing about crossposting (that's posting in multiple forums), is that it makes it harder for people who read the crossposts to decide where to answer you.

Strangely you didn't ask in the Ford Escape Hybrid forum, but that's another matter.

I replied to those who have taken the time to give me some advice. I originally posted in the new members forum and fuels & emmissions. I didn't realize that if I have a question about the MPG I'm getting with my Ford Escape that I am supposed to post only in that forum. Sorry.

I wouldn't take that as negative and don't be scared away.

Everyone here is very nice (ok, almost everyone ) and will be happy to help you with your HYBRID. The driving tips can be used for just about any vehicle and very few items are just FEH specific.

Enjoy your FEH and keep reading through this site as their is a wealth of information/tips on how to squeeze every last drop of fuel out of you HYBRID.
