LG Chem to charge up US hybrid cars

South Korea's largest chemical firm, LG Chem, on Monday said it had won a contract to develop a battery for hybrid-electric cars from a US consortium of General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler.

The $4.6-million (R30.45 million) deal is for LG Chem to develop new lithium-ion polymer battery cells for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) until August 2005 for the United States Advanced Battery Consortium.
