Default Hybrid tax cut urged by BCAA

A cost analysis of purchasing and operating a hybrid vehicle has led the B.C. Automobile Association to urge Ottawa to bring in sales-tax relief for buyers.

The cost analysis, done by the BCAA, reveals that, over a five-year period, the fuel-efficient but more expensive hybrids cost about $3,000 more than comparable gas-powered vehicles.

Four hybrid models -- Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and the Toyota Prius -- were judged against comparable gas-powered equivalents, namely the Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Ford Escape and Toyota Matrix.
