US President George W Bush on Saturday asked Americans to switch over to hybrid fuel-efficient cars that use self-generated electric power and gasoline engines to lessen foreign dependence on energy sources and to address the fundamental energy challenges faced by the nation.

"To sustain our economic growth, we must also ensure affordable and reliable sources of energy. To protect consumers against high prices, the Department of Energy has established a hotline to gather complaints of price gouging," he said in his weekly radio address to the nation.

Hi Jason:

___I haven’t seen the exact quotes from a US source yet but hopefully he isn’t just riding the wave of enthusiasm Hybrid’s have going for them currently? If the report is legitimate, the President is becoming a monumentally arrogant Pro-business only president in the worst way … He wants his Energy Bill to be passed (it was written almost entirely by the Energy Producers themselves with benefit passing along to those same producers instead of the consumers it is supposed to protect) and now is riding on the coat tails of Hybrid purchases. Where was the SOB when he canceled the PNGV program and instead brought about the Fuel Cell’ed - Freedom Car initiative? The Diesel - Hybrid technology was already complete with real world fuel economy even the Japanese couldn’t match yet let’s throw it away for some pie in the sky (Oil based H2 reformer) for fuel cells that can’t make a dent in our dependence on oil (foreign or domestic) today nor in 25 years. Not only is he out of touch, he is losing credibility faster then any President I have ever known in my short 42 years on the planet.

___We (the entire US) had better get on this problem with real solutions to protect the entire US’s interests including the majority of us (consumers) right now or our days at the top of the heap in terms of a somewhat democratic society to be envied around the world will be numbered. That is if we haven’t turned that corner in a negative fashion already

___Good Luck
