Just bought 2010 Insight, my 3rd hybrid
Hi everyone.
I've been away at University studying to become a piano technician.
I'm back and needed a hybrid with back seats that fold down, they did not on my 2006 HCH2. (My first hybrid was a 2004 HCH1)
I just got the 2010 Insight EX no nav, white with dark blue interior.
I bought it for $1500 BELOW sticker by emailing the 40 closest dealers to me here in Southern California.
I thought that was pretty good for LA after gas had creeped up 60 cents in the last 6 months.
I had to drive 600 miles out of LA to get a good deal on my previous hybrid.
In my email to the dealers I said give me your best price within 3 days.
I will buy the car from you if you have the lowest price.
If you quote me $2000 below sticker I will buy it now and not wait three days for your competitor's quotes.
(This let them know that I didn't think $300 below was a good deal.)
It must be white with dark blue interior, no second choices.
If you don't have, or can't get, that color do not respond and waste my or your own time.
No trade in, I'm paying cash, and no extras.
No lojack, no extra alarm, no mudguards, no extended warranty. Nothing!
If your website system required me to enter a phone number I entered a false one, because I don't have time to talk to 40 dealers, besides once you talk to a salesperson you start to feel obligated to buy the car from them.
Half did not repsond.
Two replied to tell me that I was a jerk.
Ten quoted sticker price.
Five quoted below sticker, from $100 to $1500 below.
I was in and out of the dealership in 45 mintues.
I love the car but have a couple complaints.
The gas cap door does not lock.
The autostop may not last through the entire redlight.
It should come with a cargo area cover.
Visibility is poor out the back sides.
I hate the climate control system - when you turn the fan on it turns the AC on for you without even displaying the 'AC ON' words. My 2006 HCH2 did this too.
Now I have to change my sig.
My first tank was only around 48 because I had to lend it to a lead foot for a while.
My lifetime average was 63.9 in my HCH2.
So I'm looking forward to my new average creeping up.
I don't think I'll average in the 60s though in this new car since, as a piano tuner, I'll be doing lots of city driving.
That 63.9 was 90% freeway driving at 50 MPH.
