I just competed with other hybrids in a Rally

2010 Insight Kicks Several Prius Butts!
See the link to the news article below.
I drove in this rally.
I think there were nine cars, mostly Prius, some Civics and an old 2-seater Insight.
I came in second with 66.5 MPG for the 93.3 mile course which included lots of nasty hills.
Achieving 66.5 MPG on this course required every hypermiling skill I have developed in my 6 years as a hybrid owner.
The winner drove an older 2-seater Insight which EPA rated at 66 MPG using their old system.
I beat every Prius there even though our car is rated 10 MPG lower.
The best Prius driver got 60.5.

Do you use a scan gauge to help with your driving skills? I'm thinking of purchasing one to see if I can utilize the SHAM mode with the HCH2. What do you think? Hal

I don't even know what the scan gauge is, sorry.
I'm not a good hypermiler.
I don't draft trucks.
I don't pulse and glide.
I never look at my tachometer.
I pay no attention to my battery's state of charge.
I just drive carefully.
I don't even keep track of my tanks any more for this, my third, hybrid car.
I did on my first two hybrids here, and the cars were called Gas Sipper and Gas Sipper2.
I think my lifetime average MPG for both were in the low 60s.

Are you happy with your new Insight? I was looking at them yesterday when I had my HCH2 in for brake fluid flush. I have to agree they do look like a good package? Hal

I am happy with it, but the HCH2 is better.
We still have our 2006 HCH2, which I drove for 3+ years.
The Civic is quieter, smoother, larger and heavier and the interior is nicer.
But the Insight is several thousand cheaper and the back seat goes down, which I need.
