Default 2010 Insight MPG

I noticed that in the European spec. the mpg (Imp gal's) is 64 for the Insight and 61 for the Civic Hybrid.

Why is the Civic Hybrid rated higher in the U.S.than the Insight?

Also I would like to see a real comparison test with the 2010 Insight and
the 2010 Prius.

If the MPG is based on the vehicle dash than, as a rule, the Prius will read
higher than actual.

The Honda, as a rule, will read lower than actual.(at least this is the case
with the Civic Hybrid

Just my thought

This is by no means scientific, but after having test driven an insight, and from what I heard from a Honda rep (I can't find the article, sorry) the Insight has decent EPA numbers, because Honda didn't focus on maxing those numbers (like they do with the rest of their cars, including the HCH.) Instead it gets pretty good numbers from EPA, but even better REAL WORLD mileage and then just imagine hypermiling with it. I am assuming that the European one uses a different test, and therefore different numbers come out.

Pretty much:It looks worse than it is, unlike most cars.

I am actually mystified as to why, for a 2010 model hybrid car, Honda would aim for EPA mileage in the low 40's. As most viewers of this site know, many HCH owners get far better mileage, and it even doesn't require constant hypermiling to achieve this. What was Honda thinking?

I don't know about the EPA figures, but as you can see from my sig I get considerable better mpg. I've had my Insight for less than a month, so I expect my mileage to go up as I get used to driving a hybrid.

84 miles roundtrip daily - 10% city/90% highway

So far I have driven my new Insight for 200 miles and I really haven't tried to max out the MPG. I get average 49 Highway and 52 city. I plan On testing my Insight in the ECON mode and drive extremely more carefully to produce more MPG. I want to see what driving as eco friendly as I can will produce on my MPG rating.
