Best MPG civic or insight hybrid
I am really at a loss. The EPA states that the Civic Hybrid get better gas mileage than the lighter Insight.
How is this possible?
The civic is heavier and I believe has more horsepower.
The insight is lighter and has less horsepower.
I just wonder in a head to head comparison which one actually gets the
best MPG.
If anyone has the chance to compare both equally could you please respond. I am considering purchasing either a Civic, Insight, or the
2010 Toyota Prius.

The Insight is cheaper by a few thousand. That's its entire raison d'etre. It's a little bit less fuel-efficient but cheaper even in the long run, more than likely.
It's Honda's effort to make hybrids more mainstream.

My guess is they are so close that MPG should not be the deciding factor. Buy the one you like better (or the Toyota).
!. Which is CAPABLE of higher maximum MPGs under various circumstances?
2. In which is it easier to achieve those maximum MPGs?
With a seasoned driver, the Civic may have a slight edge. With a novice, the Insight may be the favorite. Time will tell.
Civic and Insight have the same engine , but Skipper was correct when he said the Civic has three stage valve system and the Insight a two stag valve system. Civic has a larger 20 hp electric mtr and the Isight only has 13 hp electric mtr. Hal
I found an interesting blog the other day that talked a little about the new Insight. Not sure if this link will work. It's just kind of a "teaser". To read the entire article you have to be a member of their organization.

Im sorry to disagree with a few folks on here....but I can Guarantee that the Insight in real-world / longer term driving results will edge out the Civic Hybrid by as much as 10MPG's on average....
I have been able to drive our demo for a while now, and from personal experieince to my customers who have already purchased a 2010 Insight - especially if ECON is used - the Insight is much better in overall city / hwy MPG's.....even more-so that many Prius MPG reports you see.

Cbondhonda I tend to agree with you and I hope it is better! But last yr. cleanmpg. crew manage 78.? mpg over-all on the 48 state world record run with a HCH2[Civic hybrid] and 3 person crew and a scangauge. Will be interesting to see that record fall!
