Congratulations on the 5's. Just out of curiosity, when you filled up the tank, how many gallons did it take? My last 12 tanks have been in the low 50s. The last blip on the fuel gauge goes out usually around 520-540 miles. I admit I run my tank dry... I continue after the last blip usually for at least 75-100 miles. I just like to get 600+ miles out of each tank. When I fillup, I'm always surprised at what fill-up to first-click is. I don't "Top-off" like some do with another gallon or so, but I do continue to the next quarter or fifty cents which will add about .1 to .2 gallons. It's funny that the fillups ranges anywhere from 11.5 to 12.4 gallons

 

Congratulations and its not "No small can of beans." I remember how psyched I was on my first 50/500 tank.

One of the things I really like about driving this car is all the milestones I can set -- best mileage on the daily commute, best mileage for a certain waypoint on atrip, best mpg on a tank, getting to 600 miles before the last bar on the fuel gauge disappeared, etc. One thing I do all the time is seeing how far I can go before the miles travelled eclipses the MPG for the trip (for example, my best is 58.9 miles travelled at 58.9 mpg per the trip odometer, after that point the miles went up faster than mpg). One thing I notice is it's no longer "how quickly can I get there?"!

 

Not too hard for me to go the 55,60 speed limits, just set the CC there and steer. Sometimes a truck ends up in front of me.

NOFLASH - congrats, thats still 200miles+ more on a tank than MOST vehicles out there!

AJR, I filled up with 10.1 gallons. That's a one-click top off -- just in case it was a premature shutoff. Maybe I'm getting conservative in my old age, but I don't try to push it on my tanks. I fill up at one or two bars.

Where I live the speed limit is 70 and flow of traffic is 75-80. at 80 all I can manage is 42MPG. Sometimes I can find a truck doing 70-75 but most of them flow around 65. Anything over 55MPH and your gas mileage drops fast.

 

That's true, farkedup.

I can muster about 50 MPG if I go 60-65MPH. Any higher MPH, and the MPG suffers greatly.

Kudos as well, noflash! Sorry I missed meeting up with you at the National Gathering but maybe you were right and the two worlds would have collided. Here's looking forward to your 600 mile tank of 60 mpg. I have gotten very close a few times so I will get there eventually also.

 

That is a victory, thought I was going to have a 50mpg tank, stayed above 50 for well over 100 miles, but, alas, as I near 200 miles I am slipping all the way down into the 46-47 range ...funny the things that annoy us, Lets see, the best I could get in my 96 accord was 25ish but it was more usually around 20-21.

 

I don't get 50 on a tank too often - too many short trips. Thot I was going to get one last nite but ran into some major headwinds on the way home ... ended up with 49.9. Grrr!!

 

I'm almost there! I've done a 49.5, and with colder weather here in NC, and being able to go without A/C, I'm looking forward to exceeding 50.0! It's quite remarkable how much mpg improves by reducing my average highway speed by 5-10 mph.
